Once the haunt of pirates, Mauritius is now best-known for its luxurious hotels, incredible white sand beaches and sparkling turquoise waters. However, there’s much more to Mauritius that’s just waiting to be discovered by you. Here are our top 5 places to stay in Mauritius.
We have been lucky enough to visit this incredible island a number of times. Appealing to both couples and families alike. It offers much more than just beaches with lots to see and do when you fancy leaving the resort such as rugged mountains, colonial towns, quaint fishing villages to Championship golf courses and gourmet cuisine.
The Mauritian smile is genuine, natural and welcoming.
The Royal Palm Hotel is located on an idyllic beach just a short walk from Grand Baie. Royal Palm became a member of the Leading Hotels of the world and was the first hotel in the Indian Ocean to do so. It is easy to see why as it is renowned for its flawless service and outstanding hospitality. Staff outnumber the guests 3:1 ensuring that every guest has total relaxation and wants for nothing.
Relax in the magnificent Spa which offers a number of treatments as well as a tailor-made program.
The kitchens are overseen by Michel De Matteis, head chef and winner of numerous awards. The dishes are designed to reflect the diversity of Mauritian cuisine and it certainly does. You even get a sea view from each of the restaurants. We loved Le Bar Plage during the day with its beachfront setting and the shade provided by a Badamier tree, the fresh lobster club sandwich was our favourite.
Why not head out on the Royal Princess luxury yacht. This yacht is crewed and is designed to deliver and it does. Charter it for a day and sail off around the island stopping off to swim in the stunning ocean and enjoy a gourmet picnic or maybe you prefer a sundowner cruise along the west coast to take in the stunning sunset or maybe even an overnight trip
Great for Families
Not just for adults, the Royal Palm offers an amazing children’s club from 3-11 years. They will enjoy learning to prepare local dishes with the chef, sega dancing and even watching a movie under the stays.
It really is the best address in Mauritius.

You are greeted like returning friends here, before being shown to your accommodation. The suites are luxurious and spacious and have been designed by Kelly Hoppen.
Coffee at LUX is excellent as they have their own Cafe LUX were you can get a delicious barista-made coffee during the day or evening. Enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking the pool in the main restaurant whilst our favourite was Beach Rouge which is right on the beach with incredible views and is open for lunch or dinner.
Its a fantastic family resort too with an exciting kids club for children 3-11 years whilst Studio 17 is a teen club for the 12-17-year-olds where they can learn to spin the decks in the DJ zone as well as beach sports and exciting adventure trips around the island.
Spend some time in the hut by the pool, where you can sample some delicious locally made produce including Mauritius rums, which make great souvenirs. The K Bar was named after Kelly Hoppen and is a microbrewery with an exclusive range of craft beers on tap. There is even a British red telephone box there where you can make free phone calls back home to let them know what an amazing time you are having.
There is plenty to keep you entertained from a variety of land and watersports to a round of golf on one of the three world-class courses or head to the LUX Spa for one of the many spa treatments on offer.
